VA hospitals to implement national safety "Step-Up"

The department of Veterans Affairs (VA) will be implementing a campaign about safety at its medical centers and outpatient centers from March 8-14. Called a safety "Step-Up" the campaign intends to educate staff members about proper safety and equipment processing protocols. The focus stems from a recent VA inspection that found that reprocessing of endoscopic equipment didn't follow manufacturer's specifications at two of its facilities. Although no patient harm came from these errors, the VA wants to make sure that all of its equipment is being properly processed.
