Two programs targeting a reduction in central line infections in intensive care units (ICU) are being introduced to 28 hospital associations, reports Fierce Healthcare. Both efforts look to mimic the results from the successful Michigan ICU project, which reduced central line infections in Michigan ICUs by implementing a series of steps that each ICU caregiver uses when inserting a central line.
Both new projects are affiliated with Johns Hopkins University, which was also part of the original Michigan study. One project is being funded by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, and the other is being funded by the Sandler Foundation of the Jewish Community Endowment Fund.
