Study shows depth of Australian surgical error rates

A new study outlined 130 cases of surgical error in Australia in 2004 and 2005. Of those, 27 cases involved medical equipment that was left inside the patient, according to the Melbourne Herald Sun.

Other cases include wrong procedure errors, medication errors, and errors during childbirth. The study was conducted by the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare and the Australian Commission on Safety and Quality in Health Care.
