Study: Reduced hours for residents lead to better care

A new study found that hospitals that adopted stricter rules limited hours worked by residents led to safer care. The study, conducted by researchers at Yale-New Haven Hospital, was published in the July Annals of Internal Medicine.
Researchers examined cases from teaching hospitals that followed the stricter guidelines and non-teaching hospitals that did not. Cases from the teaching hospital showed decreased transfers to the ICU and medication errors, and increases in discharges, according to the New York Times.
