Stroke patients may be better off going to specialized facility

More stroke patients are being taken to stroke care-specific facilities, reports USA Today. Even when there are closer hospitals en route, many paramedics take patients to facilities that specialize in treating strokes. The reasoning behind this new trend is that staff members at hospitals that specialize in stroke care are more adept at performing the life-saving skills necessary specifically for stroke patients than their fellow medical workers at a general hospital, says the article.
However, there is opposition to this idea, as time is of the essence especially with patients suffering a stroke. Many of the procedures and actions taken are more effective if done in a short amount of time.
