State-of-the-art hospital to put patient safety first

Patient Safety Monitor Alert

November 28, 2007

A new hospital in Boca Raton, FL, scheduled to open in 2012 is planning to include amenities such as all private rooms, safeguards against patient falls, and electronic systems to monitor infection control. Design engineers have spent time speaking with staff and community officials in the process to understand what exactly the new facility should contain, reports The Palm Beach Post.

Infection control will drive many of the hospital's features. All new hospitals built in Florida must provide private patient rooms to limit the spread of infections. In addition, a suggested system includes the use of a red light that is triggered electronically if a staff member doesn't wash his or her hands upon entering a room.
