St. Louis hospital proposes plan to not directly employ ER doctors

In an effort to increase patient flow, the leadership at St. Anthony's Medical Center, of St. Louis, MO, has decided to move away from its current system of contracting directly with ER doctors, reports The St. Louis Post-Dispatch. The hospital pays ER physicians on an hourly basis.Many other hospitals around the country have done away with paying ER doctors on an hourly basis, says the article. The other options are to work with a third party that contracts with physicians and allocates them when necessary and to contract with a physician-owned group to provide necessary staff.
