Some CA hospitals choosing not to participate in online rating system

Patient Safety Monitor Alert

February 13, 2008

Like many other states, California recently instituted a hospital online rating system, based off on data collected around different quality measures and patient satisfaction surveys. This system, called CalHospitalCompare.org, is part of an effort to provide consumers with the most information related to available to help them decide where to receive healthcare. The system is voluntary and 35 out of the 250 hospitals targeted to particpate in the state have chosen not to participate, reports The Ventura County Star.

Most hospitals that have decided not to share data have done so because of the extra cost of gathering that data, says the article. Web site organizers say that the intent is to inform consumers, but also push facilities to do better in certain measurable areas.
