Red socks help prevent patient falls

A hospital in Massachusetts has started a new patient falls program loosely based on the region's beloved Boston Red Sox. Patients at risk of falls are given no-slip red socks, which allows all staff to know immediately if a patient needs special assistance, according to the Shirley, MA, Oracle.The program at the Nashoba Valley Medical Center in Ayer, MA, was kicked off in style, with staff members wearing red for the first week. Staff members took a "team photo" with a life-sized cut-out of Red Sox star player Johnny Damon and are planning a "World Series," where Red Sox tickets will be raffled off.
The program was designed to build teamwork along with staff awareness, according to representatives at the hospital.
