Premier survey shows hospitals see HAIs as serious threat

Patient Safety Monitor Alert

October 24, 2007

A recent survey published by Premier Inc. says that tracking healthcare acquired infections throughout the hospital is the most challenging infection control issue, garnering 33.8% of the vote. The survey represents answers from 790 hospital clinicians. One of the main reasons this is so is a lack of staff for prevention of infections, with 47% of clinicians giving this as a reason.

Also included in the survey was a question about the preventable conditions for which CMS will no longer reimburse in 2008. Nearly half of all respondents (48%) said catheter-associated urinary tract infections provided the most challenge to their facilities.
