Potential MRSA cases shut down Irish hospital ward

Erne Hospital in Northern Ireland went into its emergency procedures Monday after discovering 10 elderly patients were MRSA carriers, according to the Belfast Telegraph.

The unit was closed to new patients, and the carrier patients were isolated. Staff members wore full barriers when dealing with the patients, according to the article. The precautions were put in place to prevent the possible spread of MRSA should one of the carrier patients become ill.
