Pennsylvania hospitals forced to use better infection control methods

Pennsylvania governor Ed Rendell has put his "Prescription for Pennsylvania" into effect, reports The Patriot-News. Facilities were required to form infection control plans and submit them to the state by December 16, and then had two weeks to implement those plans. The state is reporting that nearly all hospitals have adhered to this December deadline. However, not as many outpatient surgery centers had done the same, with only 53% sending in plans at deadline.The new requirements outline best infection control practices that facilities should put into place. Rendell would like all hospitals to employ the use of an electronic monitoring system for tracking infection rates.
