OR hospital initiative yields positive results

Patient Safety Monitor Alert

June 27, 2007

A majority of the 18 Oregon hospitals participating in a Patient Safety Alliance campaign were able to improve their performance in key areas, according to an Acumentra Health press release.

Of the participating hospitals, 72% were able to improve all areas of care included in the campaign. These include heart attack and failure, and pneumonia. Fourteen hospitals were able to improve the timeliness of administering antibiotics to surgical patients, which is a component of the SCIP program, which was also mandated by the Oregon campaign.
