In an effort to reduce the number of infections transmitted among staff members and patients in the hospital, New Hampshire has launched a campaign called "High Five for a Healthy NH." This effort involves all hospitals and ambulatory surgery centers in the state. The campaign requires compliance with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s Guideline for Hand Hygiene in Health Care Settings.
The program involves five "fingers" or components. These include:
- Leadership commitment
- Availability/convenience of products
- Hand hygiene training and competency
- Measurement
- Feedback and accountability
