National Patient Safety Foundation proposes idea of "Universal Patient Compact"

To go along with the Consumer Bill of Rights, the National Patient Safety Foundation (NPSF) has proposed creating a Universal Patient Compact. This would function as an agreement between patients and healthcare providers. It would focus on the ways in which the two parties will work together on the care process. Diane Pinakiewicz, president of the NPSF, said that this proposed compact reflects the shift in healthcare with the way patients and caregivers interact. That interaction is more of a partnership today than it has been in the past.The next step would be for the healthcare community as a whole to develop exactly what would be included in the proposed Compact.
