Mayo Clinic Survey: Consumers want to be actively involved in healthcare reform

A new survey from the Mayo Clinic Health Policy Center says that Americans want to see healthcare reform, especially in the areas of quality and cost, but most people don't think these reforms will occur in the next 10 years. The survey asked more than 1,000 people 23 questions about their views about healthcare reform during a week in December 2007.Eighty percent of those surveyed agreed that the cost of healthcare needs to go down while the quality of healthcare needs to be raised. In addition, there were some reforms that those surveyed agreed on: Patients should have the freedom to select their own physicians, hospitals, and insurance; patients should be able to get accurate information about their own health; and no one should be denied health insurance because he or she has a preexisting condition.
