Patient Safety Monitor Alert

March 4, 2009

A group of key players in the Maryland arena have banded together to create the state's first health information exchange. The group, called the Chesapeake Regional Information System for our Patients (CRISP), presented its plan to the Maryland Health Care Commission and the Maryland Health Services Cost Review Commission. The proposed health information exchange will give more flexibility to patients in controlling what components of their own health information is available to healthcare providers.

The institutions that make up the CRISP include Erickson Retirement Communities, Johns Hopkins Medical Institutions, MedStar Health, and the University of Maryland Medical System. The collaboration reflects the extent to which patient records on the health information exchange could be shared.
