Letter: Nursing ratios good for hospitals
Patient Safety Monitor Alert
March 7, 2007
A Texas nurse wrote a letter to the Houston Chronicle in support of a proposed bill that would create state-mandated nurse-to-patient ratios.
The nurse cited California's success in retaining nurses after it passed a similar law last year. She also pointed toward the financial benefits of the ratios. Although staffing more nurses would increase costs initially, the writer claims hospitals can see a net savings in the reduction of the care required after a patient is injured.
