Kansas pharmacists work for hospital from home

Many small rural hospitals struggle with finding a pharmacist for the overnight shift. However, two pharmacists from Kansas are trying to change that with their new company, Frontier Pharmacy Services, reports The Wichita Eagle. Both men are employed by Coffeyville Regional Medical Center but don't actually leave their homes. Instead they use remote technology to connect them and the hospital.
The two pharmacists developed the idea in 2006 and this year, one of them won the 2007 Kansas Innovative Pharmacy Practice award. The practice gives the hospital a way to increase patient safety and lower costs, since the pharmacists are part-time and are not given benefits.
