The Joint Commission has awarded Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, IL its first Disease-Specific Care Advanced Certification Program in Heart Failure. The award, which is run in conjunction with the American Heart Association (AHA), recognizes facilities that put effort and resources into improving the quality of care for heart failure patients. Those organizations wanting to achieve this disease-specific certification must meet three criteria:

  • Meet standards and performance requirements under The Joint Commission's Disease-Specific Certification Program
  • Achieve 85% compliance for 90 days with the AHA's Get with the Guidelines measures
  • Collect and monitor data collected on the Joint Commission's core measures for heart failure, and use this data for continuous improvement.
