IL hospitals cracking down on newborn safety

Hospitals in Illinois are adding new technology to help keep newborns safe, according to an article by the Champaign-Urbana News-Gazette.Ankle bracelets and radio-frequency identification are among the innovations used to keep the babies safe. Identification technology linking the mother and child has also been employed, along with security doors in maternity wards. Staff education has also been stepped up to help protect the little patients.
Although kidnappings of newborn babies are rare, they most commonly occur in hospitals, according to the News-Gazette.
