From the Patient Safety Monitor Blog: Encourage patients to speak up if concerned

Whether patients and family members speak up about their concerns depends on their relationship with their healthcare provider, a new study published in the December issue of British Medical Journal Quality & Safety shows.

The authors of the study interviewed 35 individuals with 128 different patient care concerns. They discussed in focus groups what factors made them keep quiet or speak up about their concerns regarding the patient’s care. Most participants found raising their concerns difficult and exhausting.
