As the use of electronic medical records (EMR) climbs in the coming years, experts recommend utilizing the opinions of those who have already tested the waters—your peers. American Medical News reports that with so many hospitals and offices already having implemented EMRs, any facility that is deciding what is right for itself would be wise to ask around about vendors, and even take site visits to surrounding facilities to try out existing EMR systems.

Some of the questions American Medical News recommends that a facility considering an EMR ask of facilities that have implemented their own EMRs concern appropriate budgeting, vendor recommendation, maintenance costs, and the process of converting a paper system to an electronic system.
