FDA launches new drug safety newsletter

Patient Safety Monitor Alert

September 26, 2007

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) issued a new drug safety newsletter last week that describes potential risks of several medicines, according to a Reuters article.

The Drug Safety Newsletter is aimed at healthcare professionals and details side effects associated with the cancer drug Rituxan, narcolepsy drug Provigil, brain cancer medication Temodar, and blood infusion drug Exjade. The report makes good on a commitment made by the FDA after the Institute of Medicine issued a report in 2006 criticizing the agency's record of policing drugs once they were on the market.

The newsletter will be published quarterly. Visit http://www.fda.gov/cder/dsn/ to read the first issue.
