Evidence-based design popular in new hospitals

A new movement around evidence-based design has become popular when constructing new hospitals around the country, reports the Jacksonville Business Journal. This type of design takes into account proven scientific approaches when building hospitals, a trend that has been growing during the last 20 years. Researchers analyzed hundreds of studies from the Center for Health Design and found that there was a direct correlation between the way hospitals are designed and patient outcomes.
Some of the findings that hospitals are taking into consideration include:
- Rooms with views in the distance, and not of a brick wall, decrease nausea among patients and quickens recovery time
- Nurses stations placed near patient rooms and far from each other helped reduce patient falls by 75%
- Medication rooms with insulation to block noise helped reduce medical errors by 30%
