Editorial: Hospitals must provide more information to learn from mistakes
Patient Safety Monitor Alert
November 29, 2005
A Philadelphia Inquirer editorial demands that the region's hospitals be more forthcoming with information on hospital-acquired infections. ALthough the information is embarrassing to the facility and can lead to malpractice suits, it is also critical to share what's known about the infections to effectively protect against them, according to the editorial. The editorial also called on patients to be smarter about protecting against infections. If you've had surgery, make sure that visitors properly wash and sanitize their hands before coming in contact with you.
Similarly, hospitals should follow the data that is available and use evidence-based solutions to reduce the risk of post-operative infections.
