Medical News Today reports that the December issue of Point of Care : The Journal of Near-Patient Testing & Technology focuses on topics in patient safety and the safe use of point-of-care testing (POCT) technologies.

The issue includes case reports, research studies, and editorials on emerging POCT technologies and standards and the potential pitfalls of POCT use and the potential for error associated with the implementation of new POCT technologies. Several articles stress a need for a more methodical approach to operator training, system alerts, patient identification, and quality control.
