A change in hospital culture is needed to help increase patient safety, said speakers at a healthcare conference at Georgetown University. The speakers focused on changing a culture that is currently disjointed and focused on individual perfection to one that promotes system-wide teamwork and a focus on reducing errors, according to an article from the Knight Ridder/Tribune news service.Establishing patient safety measures costs too much money, according to the speakers. That flies in the face of critics who say establishing patient safety measures cost too much money.
Other speakers said culture change will be easier when patient safety becomes a greater priority in medical schools.
