Canadian physicians may engage in more disclosure

Patient Safety Monitor Alert

August 8, 2007

Canadian physicians are being urged to disclose errors in patient treatment, according to a Canadian Broadcasting Channel article.

The fear of malpractice claims is a deterrent to increased transparency, according to the article. The researcher pushing for greater transparency, Wendy Levinson, chair and professor of medicine at the department of medicine at the University of Toronto, says many physicians say they have enhanced their relationship with patients by admitting to mistakes.
