Canadian "Safer Healthcare Now!" campaign draws positive results
Patient Safety Monitor Alert
April 4, 2007
The Canadian patient safety program "Safer Healthcare Now!" has led to improvements in hospital performance around the six initiatives outlined, according to a campaign press release. The program advocates the same six initiatives that the Institute for Healthcare Improvement used for its "100,000 Lives" campaign.
The lead teams taking part in the campaign report reductions in the harm the initiatives aim to reduce, including incidences of ventilator-associated pneumonia, central-line infections, and surgical infections. They also recorded drops in "code" cases after adopting rapid response teams.
The program may expand to include new initiatives in the next few months.
