Arizona nurses protest in favor of Patient Protection Act

Nurses in Arizona took to the state's capitol to protest in favor of the Arizona Patient Protection Act, which would mandate a nurse-to-patient ratio statewide, reports The Arizona Republic. Currently, Arizona hospitals have the authority to decide how many patients to whom nurses can be assigned.

About 60 nurses protested in a demonstration organized by the National Nurses Organizing Committee to promote patient and staff safety. The proposed law would only allow four patients to every nurse in a psychiatric unit. A similar law was enacted in California in 2005, according to the Republic.
